The Union Pacific Model Railroad Club
was constituted in 1970. See details of our history.
We were grateful to the Union Pacific Railroad for granting us permission
to use the UP name and shield. Although the name implies exclusive
modelling of the UP, the membership currently numbering 20 has interests
in all railroads, model and prototype however there is special interest
in US railroads in particular.
It's a fictitious division point to
division point system running from Sierra Central through the Sierra
Nevadas to Pacific Flats where there is a branch line to Browns
Plains. Operations include locals, way freights, thru freights and
scheduled passenger services. We run eras from the late 1940's through
to current. During run nights we restrict locomotives and rolling
stock to a 10 year span to avoid anachronisms. All equipment must
be included in the club register and conform to NMRA standards.
Many of our members have visited the
US on rail tours. Four of our members including the writer vacationed
in the Western US in 1995. We would like to publicly acknowledge
the hospitality shown to us by all and in particular, the Columbia
Gorge MRC, Or., Platte Valley & Western and the Denver HO MRC,
both Denver, Co. Many individual modellers welcomed us into
their homes during our stay and this assured us that the fraternity
that is model railroading is quite unique. And to all the engineers
and crew of the '12" to the foot' trains who waved as they
passed our photographing quartet - Thanks!
